Neurotoxins: Sweet Dose…in the Sweet Spot

When talking to my clients, I hear almost everyday, “please do not overdo me and make me look like my neighbor…who looks plastic.” Neurotoxins such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin have been developed in the last 15 years to paralyze muscles to prevent contraction, thus preventing new wrinkles and soften existing facial lines.  Neurotoxins typically last 3-4 months when injected with the recommended dose however loading the dose can extend the life of the treatment. Loading doses such as 100 units verses 20 units to treat the “11s” can extend the life of the toxin however this is off label and is not recommended at this time.

Treating facial lines is patient specific as each client has a different facial shape, muscular strength, personal preference, lifestyle, and tolerance to the toxins.  One thing I do stress to my clients is that overdoing the treatments can look over-done, fake, and un-natural.  I highly suggest allowing alittle muscular movement with treatments.  I laugh with my parent clients when talking about allowing some movement; so our children know we mean business when they are misbehaving.  I also recommend keeping up with toxin treatments, not to allow the toxin to wear off completly.  This prevents the muscles to contract and causing lines to reappear.   Some resting lines can soften and could resolve with a recommended treatment plan, on a schedule.  If you haven’t tried neurotoxins, and are looking to soften lines, give Sweet Spot MediSpa a try.  We have a gentle touch with every injection.
